Ho-Yin

It has been hard for me to believe that I have been a part of Skimstone Arts for a little over a month now. Little did I know that I would now be starting to compete a Gold Arts Award, participating in a multi-media arts project and helping a company with a crowd funding video, during this time.

I first found out about the company through a chance encounter with Claire, the Artistic Director of Skimstone Arts, while I was given a tour of the building by the building manager. It was then that a seed was planted as I would soon find out that I share a lot of interests with her and along with other members of Skimstone Arts, in the form of pursing art practises. This includes art and photography, especially with wildlife as a subject matter.

As I joined Skimstone Arts, I was surprised to have been thrown straight into an art project, ‘Void/Evolve’, which they were about to start working on. In many ways, I really appreciate being able to be working on this project with the team, as I felt the themes and topic resonated with me on many levels. The void is an interesting subject as I constantly find myself in a void of sorts which provides me with peace and space to contemplate life events, with loneliness as a partner, it has been interesting to listen to other members’ stories and their opinion of the void. Maybe through this project and my time at Skimstone Arts I can understand myself a lot more and certainly, this void of mine is starting to change already with the addition of new people coming into and intertwining with my life.

I cannot say for certain what the future holds for me and everyone, but I do believe that I will be a part of Skimstone Arts for a very long time to come. It has opened the door to me with friends who have walked different parts of life, coming together to form a community of artists to pursue both different and common dreams. I am keen on learning from everyone and hopefully be able to offer everyone with my time and we will walk together on this adventure that started with the encounter of Skimstone Arts.
