Hi, my name is Thomas. I am 20 years old and have been involved with Skimstone since February 2020. I have always been interested in music and performance from a young age. Because of my ASD and epilepsy, I do struggle with daily activities and interacting with people so music helps me massively. I found out about Skimstone from a relative who had discovered their website. I love being a part of this group as I have been made so welcome and the help and support is developing my music even more.
I play the piano. I started out playing keyboard when I was 9 and progressed onto piano after a couple of years. I love the sound of the piano and the versatility of it. I have also played steel pans; performing as part of the North Tyneside Steel Band.
As part of Skimstone I work with my mentor Liz on my Arts Award. We meet every week to talk about my progress. Liz and I worked together on writing a song for Here’s Your Seat. Liz provided the vocals while I played the music. I’m currently working on another song for Imagine Your Seat with Claire. Liz is helping me with another project that I am working on where I have to teach another member of Skimstone how to play a song on the piano. I work with Liz, explaining how to play the song and she provides me with input on the instructions that I give. I’ve also worked with Ho-Yin on fun activities such as our quiz night.
I’m currently completing my Bronze Arts Award. I’ve almost completed this and am looking forward to progressing onto the Silver Award.
