Token to wings takes place in the Sunderland Room of the National Glass Centre, a space with an atmosphere of ‘’otherness’ within a place that displays created and manufactured glass objects. The word ‘token’ means ‘shrine’ and is associated with the acknowledgement of people who are no longer with us, or a sacred space. In today’s western society have angels or winged beings become ‘a dead concept’ only to be bought and displayed?
Or do they exist in the ‘scared’ spaces of the everyday? Token to wings seeks to perform responses from all the performers/participants involved in the project. The existence of winged beings and our understanding of them in relation to manufactured images, especially at Christmas, have been explored through movement, sound making and creative writing.
