Peter Saaremets is an experienced musician and performer who has worked with Skimstone Arts for the last 9 years. Before joining Skimstone Arts he was experienced as a performing musician for 16 years specialising in Jazz and performing at Jazz venues across the North East. With Skimstone Arts he has devised, improvised and performed in Doorbells (Barnsley CIVIC Theatre and Northern Stage Scratch Nights, Edinburgh Festival), Peace Process-ion (Sunderland Minster / Sanctuary Arts Space Gateshead) and Cold Coffee (Edinburgh Festival), Tea-side – a Travelling Tearoom (North East of England), Time for Tea (Part of Open Heritage Days in Newcastle), Angel Train, Dust and Sojourn (Washington Arts Centre) trained with Frantic Assembly and Spymonkey at Hull Truck Theatre.
He continues to be Lead Artist and supports young people facing life challenges to write, compose and perform their own songs in major public settings.

Skimstone Arts is now closed as an arts charity. We celebrated our 18 x years of creative and collaborative practice with a wonderful Celebration Party Event. Peter and Claire will continue to work with The Upstartz

Skimstone Arts has now formally closed after celebrating our 18 year journey of working with amazing regional, national and international artists, arts projects and communities.
We wish to celebrate the fantastic behind the scenes work of our Board of Trustees, led by Simon James, our very special Chair. From April 2023 we have worked together with this dedicated Board of Trustees, who have shown great care, understanding, responsibility and commitment, along with such an incredible amount of skill and knowledge.
We are very grateful to Simon James, Carol Candler, Lya Vollering, Jess Johnson, Talha Ozleblebici and Angela Mortimer for guiding and supporting us on this final journey.
Also..a big thank you to Julie Maxwell, our Financial Administrator.
We celebrated with a final AGM and Board Meeting, an exchange of gifts, including Carol’s amazing knitted jumper for Claire, and a recorded video for Claire and Peter by each Trustee. We finished with a lovely meal at Kiln Cafe in the Ouseburn Valley.

Celebration Event - part of Skimstone Arts Final Journey
We've come to the end of a fabulous 18 year journey of working with amazing regional, national and international artists, arts projects and communities.
In Skimstone style, we have celebrated as many of the performances, films and exhibitions that the wonderful Star & Shadow could host, as we took over the venue for one day.
The day was filled with live performances and music from our bands and artists, workshops, exhibitions and talks, film shorts programme, delicious food and a chance to have your say on what made our connecting together mean to you, as well as to us.
Skimstone Arts aimed to be a welcoming, safe yet risk taking charity, passionate about promoting equality and visibility in the arts and society.
Our mission was to support diverse artists and communities and those at risk of social isolation to create work with, for, and about the world that matters to them.
